If you’ve ever entertained thoughts of TikTok stardom, you’ve probably come across a JOBY. JOBY is known for its line of bendy tripods and hand-held video selfie rigs that lets you clip together cameras, mics, phones and lighting to create a one-handed production studio. Today, JOBY announced that it’s expanding from just being the thing that holds your audio gear to a company that’s now more well-known for making it.
On Monday, January 31, JOBY announced five new microphones as part of its Wavo line, originally released in 2020. The new Wavo microphones are specifically built for content creators such as influencers, streamers and podcasters. The new JOBY microphones are smarter than the current Wavo offerings and offer more control. In addition, some of the recently announced microphones are fully wireless.
There’s the JOBY Wavo PRO, Wavo Air, Wavo POD, Wavo PRO DS and Wavo Lav PRO, all with different options and features for mobile creators, podcasters and streamers. Most of the new mics are already available for sale on the JOBY online store, and you can check out the entire lineup below.
JOBY WAVO PRO shotgun
The Wavo PRO is a wired 3.5mm shotgun microphone with active noise reduction, a sound management app, plus seamless secondary mic input for easy interviews or dual channel recording.
Joby Wavo PRO DS
The mid-range Wavo PRO DS (available starting March 4, 2022) is another shotgun microphone that shares most of the pro-grade components of the flagship Wavo PRO. Still, JOBY says it’s more streamlined thanks to its plug-and-play, simple user interface with a few essential controls for audio content. A high-pass filter also cleans sound from unwanted low frequencies in real-time.
JOBY Wavo AIR Wireless LAV
The Wavo AIR is an “instant-pairing” wireless microphone kit designed for creators who need more freedom in front of the camera. Product photos show a large rectangular red and black pod clipped to a user’s collar, so shoppers should be aware that even though it’s wireless, it’s anything but discrete. It pairs with a plugged-in receiver that connects to your smartphone.

JOBY Wavo POD Podcasting Mic
Wavo POD ($99.95) is JOBY’s large-diaphragm, USB condenser microphone designed for podcasters or game streamers, featuring the versatility of both cardioid and omnidirectional pickup patterns with 24bit/48kHz high-res sampling rates and a pop filter. There’s also zero-latency headphone monitoring via a 3.5mm jack along with a volume and gain knob with one-click integrated mute functionality.

JOBY Wavo Lav PRO lavalier
Finally, JOBY’s “first pro-grade lavalier mic” is the Wavo Lav PRO ($79.99), though it’s unclear from the press materials shared with SPY precisely what sets this version apart from the existing Wavo Lav model.
